Let’s face it: prescription drugs can be unaffordable for many people. And while most insurance plans can help cover your medical costs, you may be left on the hook for out-of-pocket costs for your prescription medications. If you don’t have insurance, you could be paying the full retail price of your medications.
Luckily, there are plenty of ways to save on prescription drugs. Whether you have insurance and are looking for an alternative to potentially save more, or you don’t have insurance and you’re looking to reduce your costs as much as you can, you can take advantage of prescription discount programs.
Continue reading to learn about several prescription discount programs you can use to save money on your prescriptions in 2023.
1. SingleCare
SingleCare is a discount program that is free to sign up, accepted at more than 35,000 pharmacies and offers a $5 off your next eligible prescription fill after signing up. It also has a bonus savings program that can help you save even more on your prescriptions.
One other caveat is that, at this time, SingleCare has a smaller footprint than other programs—meaning you might not be able to use the SingleCare at as many pharmacies as other discount cards. Also, SingleCare does not offer price matching, but it does have some of the lowest prices on generic drugs out there.

2. America’s Pharmacy
The name can be misleading, but America's Pharmacy is a prescription discount program, not a pharmacy. It is a free program that offers a savings card or coupon for medications, including generic and brand-name drugs. The company can help you save up to 80% on your prescriptions by offering the lowest possible costs from pharmacies in their network. America's Pharmacy can be used for family members and pets as long as all family members live in the same house.
According to their site, America’s Pharmacy is accepted at around 59,000 pharmacies across the nation. In addition, their price search tool has a map feature that allows you to see how far participating pharmacies are located from you and which pharmacies currently have the best prices.
3. Inside Rx
Inside Rx is a discount card program that works with nearly 60,000 pharmacies across the United States. Inside Rx is a prescription discount card that is free to use and can be used at any participating pharmacy, including those in chain stores like Walmart, Publix and Walgreens.
There are no hidden fees or monthly payments required for this program. You can save up to 80% on your costs for brand and generic medications by using this card. Plus, you can also save on pet medications through Inside Rx.
Instantly download your unique savings card here. Inside Rx also offers a free mobile app (available on Android or iOS) where you can access your prescription discount card 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The app allows users to look up their current prescriptions and refill history as well as search for new discounts.
4. Optum Perks
The Optum Perks program is another one of the prescription discount programs that offers its own prescription discount card. It's free and accepted at over 64,000 pharmacies. The program also offers home delivery for many medications, which can be shipped to all 50 states. This program may be beneficial for people who have problems with transportation or are too busy to go to their local pharmacy.
However, the Optum Perks prescription discount program might not offer prices that are as competitive as prices from other programs. Still, it may be a worthwhile program to use for some people.
5. GoodRx
GoodRx is a free prescription discount program that can help you save on most medications. The site boasts that the card is accepted at more than 70,000 pharmacies nationwide, and the card offers coverage for brand-name and generic medications.
The GoodRx mobile app is available for both Android and Apple devices and offers an easy way to find the best prices for your prescriptions. It's also free to join. However, if you want the best discounts—including some exclusive coupons from pharmacies—you'll need to upgrade to a paid membership plan.
6. ScriptSave WellRx
The ScriptSave WellRx prescription discount program offers a card that can be used at over 65,000 pharmacies across the country. There are no fees for the card, and it offers an average savings of 65% on brand and generic medications. Compared to other programs, ScriptSave WellRx might not offer the lowest prices you can get on your medications.
ScriptSave WellRx offers several free tools on their site that can be helpful for tasks such as managing medications and searching for information about medications or health conditions. In addition, the site offers the free Grocery Guidance tool that helps you find healthy food recommendations based on your personalized data.
7. RxSaver by RetailMeNot
RxSaver is a free prescription discount program that helps you find the best discounts on your prescriptions. The discount card works at participating pharmacies across the country, and there are no limitations as far as how often or how many times per year users can access savings.
RxSaver offers a mobile app that can be used to search for medication prices and manage medications. One benefit is that there is no sign-up process required to search medication prices on the app. It's a quick and easy way to save money on your prescription drugs, with no hidden fees or monthly payments.
